            魅力探索之旅---你我他的第二十三届英文才艺大赛

     我部第二十三届英文才艺大赛于11月23日精彩落幕。来自中南财经政法大学、贵州医科大学、湖北师范大学、华中师范大学、武汉理工大学、贵州工程应用技术学院、贵州大学、重庆医科大学、第三军医大学等二十余所高校的学员们用心用情用英文再现经典之美：西游记的一路坎坷、泰坦尼克号上的人间真情、灰姑娘的魔幻爱情。感谢我们优秀的学员们！ 让我们一起领略到这个热情、真情的学习大社区之魅力！

23^rd English Talent Show - November 9, 2017

The visiting scholars gave us much to think about the topic of exploration in this year’s talent show.  

One interesting theme that emerged was the idea of journey, particularly travelling to the West.  In the Chinese classic story of The Monkey King, the group of companions were on an epic Westward journey.  In the Titanic section of the action, Jack and Rose were also journeying to the West: in their case, on the famed RMS Titanic from the old world of Europe to the New World.

The classic fairy-tale Cinderella rounded out this year’s presentations.  It famously portrays the journey of the benighted serving girl, Cinderella, to become the partner of the Prince, himself on a quest of exploration to find a suitable wife.    

All exploration depends on a certain amount of magic to ensure the journey’s success, as well as obstacles to be overcome.    

All of these parts of exploration were brought to life by the visiting scholars:    

-         The Monkey King’s famed magic;    

-         The blessings of the Fairy Godmother for all that Cinderella needed to attend the ball;    

-        The monsters in the cave interrupting the Monkey King’s progress;    

-         The ugly sisters and their dreadful mother, standing in the way of Cinderella’s true love;    

-         Other assorted love triangles in the lives of diverse Monkey King characters;    

-         The magic of the love between two young people from vastly different levels of society;  

-         The huge iceberg,  the obstacle to the supposedly-unsinkable RMS Titanic.    

Such talent!  Who can forget the machinations of evil, and scheming characters on the Monkey King journey; the twist in the tale of the classic fairy-tale (where Cinderella was in fact a boy!); and – perhaps this year’s stand-out – the Hollywood-worthy version we saw of Jack’s disappearance from Rose in the icy waters of the Atlantic.    

So, despite all the obstacles and helped by the odd touches of magic, all our scholars were themselves on their journeys of exploration.May they enjoy finding their starting places again, and know them for the first time!
